Exclusive: Samsung fixes bugs in screen lock animation on Galaxy S24 and S23 series with One UI 7 May update

Samsung is working to resolve a lock screen animation issue affecting the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series running the stable version of One UI 7. Many users noticed the issue, which caused the lock screen animation to appear with a delay or not at all when locking the device—but only under specific display settings.

Interestingly, the bug does not occur when the display resolution is set to QHD+ (2K). Users have reported that the problem is only present when the screen resolution is set to FHD+ (1080p) or lower. This suggests that the issue may be tied to how animations are rendered at different resolutions, particularly on high-refresh-rate displays.

After the problem became widespread, Samsung responded quickly, taking user feedback into account and beginning work on a fix. According to leaked information, a new firmware build with version number S928BXXU4BYDE has been developed. However, this build is not yet publicly available and is currently limited to internal testing and selected test users.

Samsung’s One UI 7 May update fixes major issues

The S928BXXU4BYDE firmware is currently an internal build used by Samsung’s software development team and a small group of test users. It has not been released via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates. Preliminary testing confirms that the lock screen animation bug has been successfully addressed in this version, even at FHD+ resolution settings.

This suggests that Samsung is preparing to include the fix in its upcoming May 2025 update, which is expected to be rolled out to all users soon. For Galaxy S24 users affected by the bug, this is a welcome development.

One UI 7 May Update is on the way

Based on Samsung’s usual update practices, internal builds like this typically precede public releases by a few weeks. The May update is expected to include:

  • A fix for the lock screen animation bug (especially at 1080p and lower resolutions)

  • General performance and stability improvements

  • May 2025 Android security patches

  • Minor UI refinements

The rollout will likely begin with the Galaxy S24 series and gradually expand to other supported models, including the Galaxy S23 series.

Samsung’s Swift Response to Feedback

Samsung’s quick action in response to user feedback demonstrates the company’s growing emphasis on user experience. By addressing even seemingly minor issues like animation delays, Samsung shows its commitment to maintaining a polished and responsive user interface across all resolutions.

The fact that the bug only appeared at lower resolutions may explain why some users didn’t notice it, but for those running their devices at FHD+ — often to save battery or optimize performance — it was a consistent annoyance.

When Will the Update Be Released?

While the S928BXXU4BYDE build remains in testing, the full OTA release is expected sometime in May 2025. Users can manually check for updates via Settings > Software Update > Download and Install once it becomes available.

Samsung continues to polish One UI 7, with this internal build serving as evidence that improvements are on the way. The fix for the lock screen animation bug, particularly for those using lower resolutions, is just one part of a broader effort to enhance software stability across all Galaxy devices.
