One UI 8 Beta 5 brings a dynamic new clock to the Galaxy S25 series

Samsung recently rolled out the fifth One UI 8 beta update for the Galaxy S25 series in a few nations. The latest software patched numerous bugs from previous releases and introduced a minor but cool feature: the Adaptive Clock. The new clock face brings a fun, dynamic appearance to the lock screen.

The adaptive clock: A more intelligent lock screen

The fifth One UI 8 beta release was rolled out yesterday for the Galaxy S25 lineup. It introduces a new lock screen clock that modifies its font size, direction, and layout based on what is displayed in the wallpaper. It rearranges itself to go around the subject, such as an individual, pet, or any other object, to make the appearance more engaging and dynamic.

To take good advantage of this feature, select a wallpaper on which the subject stands out clearly from the background. When you drag the clock close to the subject on the lock screen customization page, its shape and structure will transform to fit the subject’s contour. Such intelligent design will make it seem like the clock is part of the wallpaper. How to utilize the new feature?

  • To enable the Adaptive Clock, follow these simple steps:
  • Go to the lock screen customization page.
  • Click on the clock.
  • Turn off any default fancy clock styles and select a simple one.
  • Click on the “Font and Colour” tab and choose the second option with the animated icon.

Under the “Style” tab, you can select either a stacked layout (first option) or a horizontal layout (second option). People like the new feature due to its design, but early adopters have discovered minor issues, such as lagging occasionally when transitioning from the always-on display to the lock screen.

Despite these minor issues, the feature performs well and is a nice touch. The new beta release also includes fixes for a number of other issues, such as a “purple tint” problem with the camera when using 100x zoom and fixes for system stability. This release is believed to be one of the final beta versions before the stable One UI 8 update is released to the public.
