The news broke after a deeper look into Samsung’s Camera Assistant app revealed a previously hidden “3D Capture” feature, clear evidence the company’s about to let Galaxy users create 3D photos and videos, specifically for use with its forthcoming Galaxy XR headset.

Currently, this 3D capture tool appears in version 4.0.0.3 of the app, which is only officially available on the Galaxy S25 FE. That said, resourceful users found that sideloading the same app on a Galaxy S25 Ultra enables the feature as well. It’s a strong signal: Samsung is finalizing development, optimizing both app and device ahead of their major XR launch.
This move directly challenges Apple’s Vision Pro, whose “spatial video” feature has been touted as a core benefit for iPhone users. Samsung is clearly developing a similar workflow aimed at encouraging consumers to capture and enjoy 3D content on their own devices, bringing the company into direct competition with Apple at the high end of the XR market.
The new headset, under the code name Project Moohan, is expected to be the first device worldwide to operate on Google’s Android XR platform. Rumored specs include high-resolution Micro-OLED displays, a comprehensive camera array for spatial interaction, and controls ranging from hand gestures to optional physical controllers.
With speculation that the launch could happen within weeks, it’s apparent Samsung is close to completing its first-generation XR offering. Their approach is focused on building an integrated ecosystem that connects seamlessly with existing Galaxy hardware, signaling a strong play for leadership in the broader XR landscape.
