Galaxy S26 Ultra will arrive with a colossal redesign and reintroduce a retro aspect

Galaxy S26 Ultra will be Samsung’s most radical design shift in years. The new phone will deviate from the characteristic flat, angular appearance shared by the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Leaks and rumors from credible sources indicate that the new flagship model would adopt a curvier design, a different aesthetic that also reintroduces a sorely missed element: the camera island. This is less a design departure and more a judicious move in response to the necessity of making a slimmer phone with improved cameras.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra will be a slimmer and more elegant smartphone

Leaked specs indicate the Galaxy S26 Ultra will be 7.9mm thick, compared to 8.2mm in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This smaller build should be more comfortable in the palm, but it introduces a new issue with the camera. The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s cameras protrude from the rear glass by a slight 2.4mm bulge. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, on the other hand, is rumored with significant camera changes, particularly a primary sensor with a larger f/1.4 aperture.

That adjustment by itself should make the camera thicker by an additional 1mm. When you account for the skinnier body and the larger camera module, the camera bulge on the new phone would have swelled to an ungainly 3.7mm. In response, sources and leaked dummy phones suggest that Samsung will once again use a raised camera island, a style we last saw on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The camera island will be home to the lenses, and as a result, the overall bulge will be smaller and offer a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance. This development verifies that Samsung is serious about both a smaller form factor and a superior photographic capability, and is opting for the camera island as a smart accommodation.

This design change is a part of a bigger plan for the Galaxy S26 series, which is also slated to launch in January next year. The information points out that Samsung is set to replace the Plus model with the Galaxy S26 Edge. The action reflects a different focus on catering to different designs and functionality in the range.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is receiving a fresh new design and significant camera enhancements, and it promises to be one of the most interesting Samsung phones in a while. The closer we get to the launch event, the more details and clearer images we will receive, and it will make us more aware of what we are waiting for in a flagship.
