The smartphone market in India showed strong growth in the second quarter of 2025, with more phones being sent out and a big increase in total sales. A new report from Counterpoint Research shows that smartphone shipments in India went up by 8% compared to last year. Even more, the total sales value (how much money was made from selling phones) jumped by 18% from last year, setting a new record for any second quarter in India’s history. This strong performance happened because the economy got better, making people more confident and willing to spend money on new phones.
Who sold the most, and who earned the most money?
The Counterpoint report gives us a clear picture of which brands did best in India from April to June 2025:
- Vivo shipped the most phones, taking a 20% share of all smartphones sent out. Vivo’s other brand, iQOO, also grew, going from 2% to 4% share compared to last year.
- Even though Vivo shipped the most, Samsung made the most money, leading with 23% of the total sales value. This means Samsung sold more expensive phones.
- Interestingly, the iPhone 16 was the single most shipped phone model in India during this quarter, showing its popularity.
Expensive Phones Are Selling Much More
One big reason for the market’s growth was how well very expensive phones sold. Phones costing over INR 45,000 (about $540 USD) grew by a huge 37% compared to last year, making it the fastest-growing price group. This growth in high-end phones was mainly driven by sales from Apple and Samsung.
According to analyst Prachir Singh, the overall recovery of the Indian smartphone market was helped by a better economy. This made people feel more confident and spend more, especially on new smartphones. This shows that people in India are increasingly looking for better and more advanced phones.
