The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to feature a significant upgrade—a nearly edge-to-edge cover screen, which represents a substantial improvement over previous models. A brief hands-on video demonstrating this new screen surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) via user andrei_eclynoh. Interestingly, Samsung quickly removed the post, indicating the company may not have intended for this feature to be revealed just yet. Regardless, the glimpse we got suggests the upcoming device will set a new standard for foldable cover displays.
Thinner Than Ever: Galaxy Z Flip 7
The Flip 7’s foldable display is clearly showcased here. Samsung has increased the inner screen size to 6.9 inches, up from the previous 6.7 inches. The bezels around the display, which serve as protective borders when the device is folded, appear unchanged in size compared to earlier models.
In terms of design, Samsung claims the Flip 7 is 0.8mm slimmer when folded and 0.4mm thinner when unfolded compared to the Flip 6. On paper, that’s a nice improvement. In practice, though? It’s tough to notice any real difference just by watching the video—unless you’re the type who brings calipers to meetings. Realistically, we’ll have to wait until the Flip 7 launches and we can compare both devices side by side to see if those thinner dimensions actually make a meaningful impact.
What stands out here is the noticeably slimmer profile of the Flip 7—definitely not what we anticipated. At first, you might think it’s just the way the device is positioned, but the difference is clear when you look at the SIM tray. Compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, there’s much less space between the top and bottom of the tray and the edge of the Flip 7’s frame. Unless Samsung chose to make the tray itself unusually thick (which seems unlikely), it’s safe to say the Flip 7 is indeed thinner.
Frankly, this would mark a notable shift for the Galaxy Z Flip series—and, honestly, for most flip phones in general. Up to now, they haven’t prioritized a slimmer folded profile like you see with the book-style foldables. If Samsung’s ready to move in that direction, it could make their devices far more appealing for users who value portability and sleek design.
