Samsung Galaxy A17 5G renders reveal successor to global best selling Android smartphone

The highly awaited follow-up to the world’s best-selling Android smartphone of Q1 2025, the Galaxy A16 5G, is coming. Leaks from technology media publication Android Headlines have published high-definition renders and key specifications of the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy A17 5G, providing an initial glimpse of the device that will look to extend Samsung’s lead in the budget segment.

The Galaxy A16 5G had impressed by taking the fifth position on Counterpoint Research’s ranking of the world’s top-selling smartphones during the first quarter of 2025, becoming the world’s best-selling Android phone for the quarter. This new version will look to expand on that success, with a promise of mixing familiar design elements and improved internal hardware to attract a broad user base.

Design and Display Enhancements

The Galaxy A17 5G is going to continue targeting the entry-level market while taking design cues from its premium siblings. At the back, the phone takes on a vertically oriented camera module, replicating the look found on the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56.

The front of the device, however, sticks to a more traditional appearance with asymmetrical bezels, including a noticeably thicker “chin” at the bottom and a waterdrop notch design up top for the front camera.

For the display, the Galaxy A17 5G gets a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel, the same size as the one on its predecessor, the Galaxy A16 5G. The phone’s dimensions are measured at 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.9 millimeters, indicating a familiar form factor for users.

Improved Performance and Lasting Power

Under the hood, the Galaxy A17 is going to get a substantial processing boost. It is going to be driven by the Exynos 1380 chip, a step up from the Exynos 1330 of the Galaxy A16.

Initial benchmark results on Geekbench 6 for the Exynos 1380 reveal a single-core score of 924 and multi-core score of 2137, pointing to enhanced overall performance for everyday tasks and casual gaming. It will be powered by a large 5000mAh battery, the same as the A16, providing long-lasting use. The big battery will be supported by 25W fast charging for faster power top-ups.

Familiar and Functional Camera Setup

In the camera department, the Galaxy A17 5G will continue with the same tested camera setup as the Galaxy A16 5G. The rear camera setup will include a 50-megapixel primary sensor, offering high-resolution images for daily photography.

It will be joined by a 5-megapixel ultrawide lens for wider landscape photography and a 2-megapixel macro lens for up-close detail, presenting a well-rounded set of photography capabilities for its audience. The stability in camera specs indicates that Samsung is prioritizing the polish of the overall user experience with calculated performance upgrades.
