In a development that represents a significant change in the direction of the smart home sector, Samsung has revealed that it will introduce its signature One UI software to a broad lineup of Wi-Fi-connected home appliances. Not only is the company unifying the user experience within its ecosystem, but it is also pushing the envelope by taking an unparalleled long-term support commitment with a seven-year software update guarantee for these products, the same vow that was recently made for its phones and TVs.
This innovative approach, revealed in advance of the IFA 2025 show in Berlin, is designed to produce a unified, integrated home experience. Beginning in September 2025, Samsung appliances from 2024 and onward—including ovens, washers, and refrigerators—will get an update to the new One UI software. New appliances will ship with the Tizen OS-based One UI software already installed, making every connected Samsung device you own, from phone to washing machine, provide the same consistent, familiar experience.
A new era of smart appliance capability and security
The latest software carries numerous upgraded features to render home life more convenient and secure. The enhanced Bixby voice assistant now employs large language models and is capable of distinguishing between various family members using Voice ID to provide personalized responses. Refrigerators that have the AI Vision Inside feature will be more intelligent and are able to recognize as many as 37 varieties of food.
In the security department, Samsung is debuting Knox Matrix, a private blockchain technology that enables compatible devices to keep track of one another’s security status in real-time, establishing a secure network across the whole home. In addition, refrigerators with AI Home or Family Hub displays will support encrypted Credential Sync and Passkeys, providing an extra layer of convenience without a loss of security.
Establishing a new benchmark for durability
Samsung is creating a new industry benchmark with the application of its seven-year software update policy to home appliances. The majority of consumer electronics cease to function optimally once their software support concludes, yet Samsung’s new intelligent appliances are built to endure, both in their functionality and their software. The vow to endure longer is a result of consumer demands: devices that remain safe and feature-rich for an extended period.
Samsung’s Digital Appliances business executive, Jeong Seung Moon, summed up this strategy, saying, “By extending One UI to smart appliances, we are making it easier for people to experience technology at home. This consistency guarantees that the experience is natural and familiar throughout all of our devices.” This aggressive step places Samsung not only as a hardware vendor, but as a pioneer in developing a unifying, smart, and sustainable smart home ecosystem of the future.
